Specifying and Enforcing Norms in Artificial Institutions

چکیده
In this paper we investigate two important and related aspects of the formalization of open interaction systems: how to specify norms, and how to enforce them by means of sanctions. The problem of specifying the sanctions associated to the violation of norms is crucial in an open system because, given that the compliance of autonomous agents to obligations and prohibitions cannot be taken for granted, norm enforcement is necessary to constrain the possible evolutions of the system, thus obtaining a degree of predictability that makes it rational for agents to interact with the system. In our model, norms are specified declaratively. When certain events take place, norms become active and generate pending commitments for the agents playing certain roles. Norms also specify the sanctions associated to their violation. In the paper, we analyze the concept of sanction in detail and propose a mechanism through which sanctions

A programming approach to monitoring communication in an organisational environment
Agreement technologies [1] achieve coordination among autonomous computational entities, by combining technologies for norms, semantics, organisations, argumentation, negotiation, and trust. We consider how an organisational programming language, such as 2OPL [2], can be extended to monitor communication. Such an extended programming language can be used to facilitate the development of electro...
متن کاملعلل ناهنجاری و روش کنترل آن از دیدگاه نهجالبلاغه
It is evident that observing the religious and social norms often leads to more order in different affairs of life and the development of the society, especially in its scientific, cultural and economic institutions. Every society or group has its special principles, laws, customs and conventions to maintain relationships among each other and to exercise their individual and social affairs,...
متن کاملNorms in Game Theory
This chapter summarizes two main views on norms and games as emerging in literature on game theory, social science, philosophy and artificial intelligence. The first view originates in the field of mechanism design or implementation theory and characterizes norms as mechanisms enforcing desirable social properties in classes of games. According to the second view, originating from work in the s...
متن کاملEstablishing Social Order in 3D Virtual Worlds with Virtual Institutions
An important security aspect of Virtual Worlds (in particular Virtual Worlds oriented towards commercial activities) is controlling participants’ adherence to the social norms (rules of behavior) and making them follow the acceptable interaction patterns. Rules of behavior in the physical world are usually enforced through a post factum punishment, while in computercontrolled environments like ...
متن کاملUsing OWL Artificial Institutions for dynamically creating Open Spaces of Interaction
Open interaction systems play a crucial role in agreement technologies because they are software devised for enabling autonomous agents (software or human) to interact, negotiate, collaborate, and coordinate their activities in order to establish agreements. In our view those systems can be efficiently and effectively modeled as a set of physical and institutional spaces of interaction. In a di...
